Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

- Maintains utmost level of confidentiality at all times.

- Demonstrates business practices and personal actions that are ethical and adhere to corporate compliance and integrity guidelines.
- Assesses patient needs by selecting, administering and interpreting appropriate evaluation tools.
- Educates patient and family members regarding evaluation findings and recommendations/plan of care.
- Develops goals that are functional, developmentally appropriate, time-sensitive and measurable.
- Complies with clinical documentation requirements.
- Develops, instructs and verifies understanding of home program as appropriate with patients and family members.
- Participates in a variety of patient care related team meetings.
- Participates in departmental meetings.
- Participates in process improvement.
- Communicates with referring and community physicians to maximize patient care, establish a professional relationship and develop a consistent referral base. Informs Manager of any difficulties.
- Maintains billable productivity level as required.
- Generates suggestions for improving work processes.
- Provides Holiday/Weekend on-call/patient-care coverage as needed.
- Provides in-services within the department, hospital and professional and lay communities.
- Demonstrates an understanding of evidence-based practice.
- Demonstrates the ability to use computer/software applications required for the job.
- Supports orientation, competency assessment, and precepting activities.
- Complies with infection control responsibilities in the department.
- Assumes the role of care coordinator when appropriate.
- Will occasionally drive for Driscoll Children's Hospital business.
- May occasionally participate in a community visit for the benefit of the patient.
- Routinely demonstrates the ability to solve complex problems independently within their hospital role, clinical and non-clinical.
- May be required to work at an alternate location (inpatient or outpatient based on skill set) to support patient care needs.
- Demonstrates flexibility regarding departmental scheduling needs including but not limited to compliance with family-friendly hours, floating between settings and locations, offering hours that support the patient population, etc.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Makes and implements decisions compatible with organizational goals.
- Maintains composure, effectiveness, and flexibility under pressure.
- Provides clinical supervision/guidance to the following job classes under the direction of the departmental Manager: Speech Pathology Intern, Rehabilitation Attendant, Rehabilitation Support Staff, and Student Affiliates.
Education and/or Experience:
- Master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology or Communication Disorders and five years experience or
- Doctoral degree in Speech-Language Pathology or Communication Disorders and five years experience
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations Required:
- Current Texas Licensure as a Speech-Language Pathologist
- Current Certificate of Clinical Competence or Clinical Fellow Status with the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association
- Current CPR certification or will complete within 90 days upon hire
