We are seeking a part-time Advanced Practice Provider (PA-C or NP) to support a busy orthopedic, well-established trauma surgeon in Indianapolis. This position is replacing a long-term NP who is retiring and will work on-site initially at our northwest Indianapolis location, but could transition to one day per week remotely. Hours are flexible, but ideally could be M-F, 9:00 am - 1:00 pm. The opportunity to run an independent clinic a half day per week is a possibility as experience and familiarity grow.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills are a must. This is a patient-facing and focused role which requires a practitioner that enjoys caring for patients and guiding them through their recovery from trauma and surgery. No orthopedic experience is required. The orthopedic provider will work closely with the APP to provide the highest quality care. Part-time duties will include:
- Supporting the physician in clinic
- Managing outpatient phone calls and inquires
- Performing pre-operative and post-operative documentation
- Managing outpatient prescriptions
- Communicating with patients when surgeon is not available
- Conducting an independent clinic once a week (when comfortable)
Typical Schedule:
- Monday & Tuesday: Outpatient clinic duties with MD (9:00 am - 12:00 pm); patient communication and chart prep (12:00 - 1:00 pm)
- Wednesday: Assist with inpatient rounds at Trauma center or ortho hospital (9:00 am - 12:00 pm), address patient inquiries and prep for surgical cases (12:00 - 1:00 pm)
- Thursday: Independent outpatient clinic (9:00 am - 11:00 am); patient communication and chart prep (11:00 am - 1:00 pm)
- Friday: Outpatient clinic duties with MD (9:00 am - 12:00 pm); patient communication and chart prep (12:00 - 1:00 pm)

provides outpatient care and inpatient care, with 10 operating rooms, 2
procedure rooms and a 42-bed inpatient unit for patients undergoing more
invasive procedures, such as disc replacement, spinal fusion or total hip and
knee joint replacement. Other services include an urgent care,
clinics, pre-op clinic, imaging and physical therapy.
General Statement of Duties:
All clinical care provided by the Advanced Practice Provider (Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant) will be within the scope of the duties assigned by the supervising OrthoIndy Physician. The supervising Physician must be either physically present or immediately available for consultation when services are proved by the Advanced Practice Provider, including care provided using protocols, guidelines, and/or standing order. When the supervising Physician is unavailable, they may designate another Physician who has agreed to temporarily be responsible for the supervision.
Essential Duties:
- Helps plan and implement care of doctor’s patients, including entering orders into the patient record that are verbal orders or part of standing orders or protocols approved by the supervising physician.
- Orders radiologic and laboratory tests and studies as necessary to complete history and physical examinations.
- Assesses patients and assesses normal and abnormal findings obtained from history and physical examination as well as radiology and ancillary studies.
- Plans and implements care of patients, including; EMR documentation, ordering additional studies, communicates with supervising Physician and additional staff, and prescribing appropriate medications.
- Helps to counsel individuals and families about their health related issues. Communicates individualized teaching plans to patients based on their needs.
- Collaborates with multidisciplinary team members by making appropriate referrals.
- Patient rounding at Trauma center or ortho hospital
Requirements:
- Master's Degree in Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner required
- National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants certification or American Association of Nurse Practitioners certification required
- Indiana Physician Assistant Committee certification or Coalition of Advanced Practice Nurses of Indiana certification required
- BLS and ACLS required
- No prior experience necessary
