First Children School in Plainfield, NJ is a New Jersey Department of Education approved private special education school, serving students in grades PreK through high school. We specialize in educating students with multiple disabilities including those who are medically fragile, developmentally, intellectually, or physically disabled, deaf or hard of hearing, and/or visually impaired.
Position Summary:
We are seeking a dedicated Speech Language Pathologist to join our team part-time, working with children with special needs. In this role, you will help students aged 4 to 21 develop essential skills for effective communication.
The Speech Therapist will have leadership, advocacy, and collaboration skills to provide prevention, assessment, and remediation services for students who exhibit difficulties in the area of language, speech, voice, feeding, and fluency. These services are designed to help children meet their educational goals.
Report To: Principal
Major Responsibilities:
1. Work cooperatively with school personnel to accomplish the goals and objectives of the IEP.
2. Coordinates speech-language services with student services provided by other school personnel.
3. Maintains records of the speech-language interventions and prepares periodic reports as required.
4. Adheres to established rules, regulations, laws, and appropriate ethical standards.
5. Administers formal and informal (on-going and curriculum-based) assessments
6. Analyzes and interprets information to make recommendations regarding the need for speech-language services.
7. Provides appropriate information in an informal and formal basis regarding speech, language, and hearing programs.
8. Supervises undergraduate interns, paraprofessionals, volunteers, and other professional (as appropriate).
9. Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of New Jersey Standard Course of Study in the management of communicative disorders.
10. Collaborates/consults with classroom teachers in the management of speech-language disorders.
11. Plans evidence-based interventions appropriate for individual students and groups of students.
12. Manages the facilities, materials and equipment, including assistive technology, necessary to delivery of services.
13. Promotes effective interpersonal relations with students.
14. Demonstrates knowledge and use of statewide testing procedures.
15. Develops appropriate IEPs based on students' strengths and needs.
16. Manages time efficiently.
17. Engages in continuing education and professional growth activates related to speech-language- hearing, and education.
18. Provides consultation to parents, teachers and other appropriate school personnel.
19. Seeks the assistance of teachers, parents, and others to meet the communication needs of students.
20. Consults/communicate with non-school agencies to enhance services.
Education and Experience:
1. Master's or Doctoral degree from an accredited college or university.
2. Must have a Department of Education Standard Speech Language Specialist certification.
3. Must have an appropriate and active license through the state of New Jersey.
4. Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand English.
5. Must possess interpersonal skills to establish and maintain effective relationships with children and parents/guardians.
6. Must display a professional attitude.
7. Must possess vision/hearing senses, with or without reasonable accommodation, will enable these senses to function adequately, so that the requirements of the position can be fully met.
8. Must possess the ability to be physically mobile, with or without reasonable accommodation, so that the requirements of the position can be fully met.
9. Must be able to physically assist with evacuating children during emergency situations.
