Rate of Pay: $24.54/hour + DOE
Summary
Assists the Palliative Care team in the examination and treatment of patients under the direction of the provider by performing technical services within the scope of practice of the Medical Assistant.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Accompanies patient from waiting room to Palliative Care exam room.
- Interviews patients, obtains allergy information, obtains vital signs, measures height and weight, and documents this information in the patient electronic medical record (EMR).
- Reconciles medications and enters information into EMR for provider review.
- Prepares treatment rooms for examination of patients and for special procedures.
- Provides materials to practitioners as directed.
- Obtains test results as requested by the Palliative Care Team.
- Delivers samples to Lab, collects non-invasive lab samples.
- Works as an effective team member.
- Assists patients with dressing and undressing when donning a medical gown is required.
- Reinforces patient education materials/instructions approved by the medical provider.
- Completes tasks daily as assigned.
- Assists with the transcription and migration of patient records between EMRs.
- Obtains prior authorization for medications and treatments as assigned.
- Enters data into the computer as needed to maintain office and patient records.
- Maintains par levels of medical and office supplies.
- Ensures all outdated supplies and materials are discarded and replaced per policy.
- Cleans patient care equipment per policy following each patient use.
- Reports safety concerns to Palliative Care team.
- Provides telephone coverage for the Palliative Care Department and conveys messages to team.
- Posts visit follow-up on specific patients per provider request.
- Provides appointment reminders prior to appointment.
- Assist with scheduling of Palliative Care patients.
- Interacts with Cancer Center Staff to assure seamless transition of Palliative Care services.
- Attends daily huddle and meetings at Cancer Center as assigned.
- Cleans and restocks exam rooms and treatment areas as needed.
- Demonstrates System Values in performance and behavior.
- Complies with System policies and procedures.
- Other duties as may be assigned.

Minimum Education/Experience
No educational requirement and 6 months to 1 year relevant experience
Required Licenses/Certifications
Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers
BLS: Employee will be enrolled in the Resuscitation Quality Improvement (RQI) Basic Life Support (BLS) Entry or Prep Curriculum (depending on their previous BLS certification).

Other Experience/Qualifications
Required:
- Strong written, electronic and verbal communication skills.
- A willingness to be trained on-the-job in duties not previously learned is essential.
- Knowledge of medical terminology.
Preferred:
- Experience with electronic medical records (EMR).
- Experience as medical assistant or comparable position in a medical office, medical clinic or hospital.
