Job Summary and Qualifications
The Speech Therapist provides high-quality, patient-centered care by developing and conducting individualized therapy programs for patients with communication, cognitive, and/or swallowing impairments. As a member of the health care team, the Speech Therapist performs comprehensive patient assessments and establishes appropriate treatment goals. The Speech Therapist serves as an educator to patients, families, students and colleagues.
What you will do in this role:
- You will conduct subjective/objective assessments on the assigned acute patient assessing and diagnosing their speech related medical needs related to speech/language, cognition, voice, and swallowing.
- You will structure and implement individualized patient program to improve communication/swallowing abilities.
- You will evaluate patient regularly during treatment and adjust program as needed to maximize patient progress.
- You will document progress in patient’s chart. You will complete notes, charges, discharge notes and patient communication.
- You will consult with Program Director and Rehab Physician/Medical Director regarding pre-screen assessments and physician consultations to determine appropriate placement of potential patients.
What qualifications you will need:
- Basic Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date
- Licensed Speech Pathologist in the state of Texas
- Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC) by the American Speech and Hearing Association
- A minimum of a Masters Degree from an accredited speech program
- A minimum of 1 year experience in an acute care facility
- Must be able to work weekdays and 2 weekend shifts a month
- No new grads
