The VA Pacific Islands Health Care System provides access to patient care to over 130,000 veterans across a 2.6M square mile area of the Pacific Ocean. Remote Island locations, separated by great distances of ocean, is the environment in which the VAPIHCS delivers a full range of comprehensive health care services. The VAPIHCS operates seven community-based outpatient clinics (CBOCs) covering seven county areas. These outpatient clinics are in America Samoa, Guam, Hilo, Kauai, Kona, Leeward, and Maui. VAPIHCS is a Level 3 facility within the VA Sierra Pacific Network (VISN 21).
The incumbent functions as a Psychiatrist for the VA Pacific Islands Health Care System (VAPIHCS). In this role he/she provides Psychiatric care to Veterans. Duties include responsibility to provide clinical psychiatry services to a diverse group of complex psychiatric patients consistent with his/her licensing, credentialing and privileging at the Kauai CBOC and by telehealth with other CBOC's and outreach clinics. This position requires 100% clinical duties. This position reports directly to the Chief of the Kauai CBOC.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Degree of Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.
- Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
- Residency Training: Physicians must have completed residency training, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification.
- Board certification or board eligibility psychiatry.
- This is not a remote or telehealth vacancy. You must live in commuting distance.
COMPENSATION:
- Salary of $260K-$300K annually
- Performance Pay up to $15,000 (These are based on measurable goals)
- This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after complete review of the EDRP application.
