Summary:Provides respiratory therapy to patients as ordered by physicians, according to established standards and practices of the Hospital.Responsibilities:1. Provides a wide range of respiratory therapy procedures (correctional/routing) as ordered by a physician, including chest physiotherapy.2. Checks patients charts and physicians orders. Collaborates with other health care providers in order to provide appropriate care and Hospital function.3. Set up necessary equipment and medications, and administers treatment as ordered. Responsible for patient teaching as it relates to the patients care plan. Documents all treatments, response and progress.4. Monitors environment control systems. Delivers and sets up equipment and monitors patients on continuous ventilation.5. Performs oxygen cylinder rounds.6. Performs nasotracheal and tracheal (endotracheal tube or tracheostomy) suctioning.7. Makes patient rounds regularly to ensure quality care according to set standards of care.8. Observes patients, checks equipment, changes/makes adjustments as necessary.9. Recognizes medical problems and reports to the physician when necessary.10. Applies emergency protocols as needed and alerts Director immediately.11. In the event of cardiac arrest, proceeds to location, and participates as a member of the code team with establish and maintenance of patient airway.12. Performs arterial blood gas sampling using accepted safety protocols for blood borne pathogens.13. Maintains established department policies, procedures, objectives, quality assurance, safety, environmental and infection control.14. Assist in care and maintenance of department equipment and supplies.15. Charts treatment, response, and progress.16. Performs EKG and PFT procedures.17. May perform EEG testing with appropriate training.18. Instructs patients in use of spacers, breathing techniques, and other pulmonary topics.19. Complies with Inland Hospitals Hand Hygiene Standards.20. Adheres to Inland Hospitals Standards of Behavior.21.
